With the huge retirement of the Classics which was uptill recently the central part of the Beano & Dandy collection, and the Pups, that leaves the collection with 5 pieces which are not limited editions remaining. The Dennis and his Pals collection and Fireman Dan. So what now?
1. Front Covers. I would love these to continue, however the covers will start getting more complex and repetitive characters will start appearing. I think just one a year for the time being will be best
2. Specials. Along the lines of Fireman Dan, more of these which are not limited editions, taken from the pages of the two comics. However perhaps spreading across some of the other popular characters with their huge history and iconic moments. The Bash Street Kids, Minnie the Minx, Roger, Korky, Biffo, Billy Whizz, Dennis and Walter moments, Bananaman perhaps with some villains.
3. Dennis and Pals. This is probably going to be central with a large supporting cast in the comic and the tv series. Walter, Foo-Foo, Bertie Blenkinsop, Spotty Perkins, Nervous Rex, Dudley Nightshirt, Rasher, Gnipper, Bea, Mum, Dad, The Colonel, Sergeant Slipper, Postman, Milkman, Gnasher's Daughters, The Teacher, Granny
4. Playground Musical Boxes. I think there are two more pieces for this, a seesaw and a slide. Minnie, Roger, Sidney & Toots on the seesaw and Smiffy, Erbert, Wilfrid and Spotty stuck on the slide / piled up at the bottom.
How about a funfair set, with a mix of Dandy and Beano characters.
The central and largest piece could be funtastic Ferris wheel musical box, with all the Bash Street Kids & Cuthbert (minus Plug) occupying the seats. A seperate accompanying piece can be Teacher looking rather stressed.
A smashed test your strength with Desperate Dan, with perhaps on another piece the bell hitting the luckless Calamity James
Water Balloons with Minnie, Beryl and their Dads as the target
Helter Skelter with Korky and Biffo and Billy Whizz zooming around the bottom
Coconut Shy with Dennis and Walter
Lemonade Stand with Ivy the Terrible and Ted
Pa with a huge icecream, Ma with the biggest candyfloss
Donkey Ride with Little Plum and Treaclefoot
Beat the Goalie with Ball Boy (and Goalie)
Splat the Cat with Gnasher and Gnipper
Hook the Duck with Roger the Dodger
Ghost Train with Eddie Potter and Wolf
Magic Mirror with Plug
Bea very disapointed at being below the required height for a ride
and many more
Only the Ferris wheel needs to be musical, but this would be a fantastic set, involving a lot the characters in a typical comic way, rather than being a standalone pieces
Another idea can be like in the front cover fashion with one scene per comic strip, taking a top moment for a character with the wacky title of the strip and dates for when they ran. Would be great as a limited edition set and can include characters from yesteryear and current, moving chronologically and small enough for about a pair released at each term 2 in spring, 2 in autumn.
Its representing the strip not the character if you see what i mean.
For Dennis the Menace Strip, it could include a scene of Dennis menacing Walter, perhaps with Gnasher looking on. Dated 1951 to date in one corner, and the title of the strip in another corner away from the scene. There could then be another scene from Gnasher's Tale, where Gnasher appears again in his own strip perhaps with Gnipper. Limited to 500/750 only starting off perhaps with Desperate Dan, Korky the Cat, Keyhole Kate and Hungry Horace as they came first, and then moving on through the years. Perhaps with members voting on which characters from the year merit being celebrated. 2 per comic, per year
right i think i need some refreshment after typing that up
