Hi guys 'n' gals!
As you've no doubt already realised both the original set and the classic collection set both now have 30 pieces each. I was wondering if you think we've seen the last of the classic collection with General Jumbo or if they will release more.
surely the absence of Bash Street Kids characters Sidney and Toots from the classic range speaks good reason for the collection to continue.

 what? elaborate please
in a steak & kidney you tend to have the essential obvious steak chunks, kidney and the gravy. It wouldn't be the same without the gravy.
Can't have the bash street kids in the classic collection, and not include Sidney and Toots.

Well said, Macca. They should have Cuthbert too.
Finish the classics go back to the old style BD bases much nicer don't know why they stopped them most people prefer them.

but then the bases won't match if they revert back, then i'm going to want Babyface, Winker, Ball Boy etc on the old style bases so that they look right in the display cabinet. Sad i know but the classic bases raise the characters up that slightly and it'll be all wrong.
But putting the pieces aside Macca which style do you prefer the new or the old? I will start a poll.

Thing is though, they could be producing characters for ever in the classics range and how exactly do you define a "classic"

Let's bring this on: The Classic Collection does not have Korky & Biffo yet and if they're not defined as classics then I don't know what is.

A classic character is one, which has played a significant part in the Beano or Dandy history They can also include those with long service to the comics, or they made a huge impression during they're era like Pansy Potter.
I don't think there are that many characters left who can be called classics this way, and most have been in the original collection.
Korky, Biffo, Sidney and Toots, Les Pretend, Big Eggo, Dirty Dick, Ivy the Terrible, Calamity James, Cuddles and Dimples, Blinky, Black Bob, Puss 'n' Boots, Billy the Cat, Smudge, Eddie Potter, Gnipper, The 3 Bears, Dinah Mo, Bully Beef and Chips, Jocks and Geordies, The Nibblers, Snitch and Snatch
A few others maybe could be original stars one from either comic (Tin-Can Tommy, Hungry Horace).

When the new "classic collection" first came out, i have to admit i prefered the old. But now looking at them, i absolutley love both, and the designs keep improving.
The beauty of the new ones is the poses they have, when the older ones on the white bases were just stood to attention (though the old little plum is the best piece made to date!).
I cannot see robert harrop going back to the old bases, as i thought they only brought the classic collection out as so many were retired and were so hard to come by for new collectors.
There are so many possibilities. I would love to see some more of the older characters from before my time, and just from the 80's.
