View Full Version : Thunderbirds now more collectable than Camberwick Green?
Carla

Could it be that the Thunderbirds collection has overtaken Camberwick Green as the most popular current collectable collection outside of the dawgs of course?
It seems the limited editions of 250 sell out quicker than the cg limited's, the standard character's at least hold their values whereas cg characters are.....well we won't go there and get depressed, it's a sunny day, why spoil it!
Let's just hope RHD get a new licence to make and sell more Thunderbirds figurines, they are exceptional and deservedly very well accepted by avid Thunderbirds fans.
A great success story. :)

Nice post. I think Thunderbirds is a more widely-known cult favourite, so I would not be surprised it sells quicker.
Let's hope the license negotiations conclude soon so that we can be saved again ... :)

Yes i hope so too. The Thunderbirds collection is worthy of many more pieces, i only hope they are not just copies of the characters, and we get new characters, vehicles, or scenes.
And maybe an event piece that will be made available to every true Thunderbirds collector and not just anyone who collects RHD but happens to live near the mill. :)

Dum dum dum.......dum dum dum dum........
Captain Scarlet *electronic voice* "Captain Scarlet*
He’s the one who knows the Mysteron Game,
And things they plan.
Captain Scarlet,
To his Martian foes a dangerous name,
A Superman.
They crash him, and his body may burn.
They smash him, but they know he’ll return,
To live again.
Captain Scarlet,
As the Angels are flying, wing to wing,
Into the scene,
Spectrum is Green.
Captain Scarlet,
Though the Mysterons plan to conquer the Earth,
This indestructible man will show what he’s worth.
Captain Scarlet,
In-des-tructible,
Captain Scarlet.

Great news Matt, maybe i can fall in love with RHD again after all.
Many figurines to make
Captain Scarlet, Captain Black, Captain Blue, Col White, Lt Green, Destiny angel, Symphony angel, Rhapsody angel, Harmony angel, Doc Fawn, Captain Brown (at his desk thingy), Captain Grey oh and Capt Magenta...... love it! :D
also great vehicles/ships to produce, SPV's, Interceptors, Cloudbase, oh it's all too much.
So yes Matt, CG and BD are past their prime, you must have a stud farm you can put them out to pasture on. It's Captain Scarlet time at RHD! Full throttle.
and how about those terrific end title paintings by Ron Embleton, how about a 3d light relief version?
.......and Joe90?...yes yes yeeeees! oh dear i must calm down. and take a pill.......
Dum dum dum...... dum dum dum dum!

Is Francis Matthews still alive? If he is maybe some signed Capt Scarlet figurines, or get Ed Bishop to sign capt Blue figurines (If he is alive, if not don't bother)
And a SPECTRUM logo plaque.
Oh this is so fresh......... I have hope at last! Thank you MattB, x x x

Matt......Oh i just thought......the sight of you (or whoever will model it) trying to sculpture the 'Big Rat', oh i can imagine the tears, the pain, the anger, the blood, the sweat, and the very frequent swear words being uttered under your breath......
It must be done.

How can no-one else be excited by this, or do we all want to see RHD churning out the same old boring CG and BD pieces for the next two hundred years!?!? (...or even worse yet more bloomin' bull terriers)...... come on guys give this idea a thumbs up or that just might happen.
I wonder if the Capt Scarlet models can be made indestructible?
If RHD hadn't got the guts to diverge a little in their choices of collections we wouldn't have had The fantastic Roald Dahl collection, or Mr Benn, etc etc.....

Thanks for the post of intent Matt with the aim of Thunderbirds continuing. Truly hope the negotiations conclude positively, as there are still a few limited editions that I would like to have in my collection - Thunderbird 1 (vertical flight), Grandma and Tracy Island (hint TB1 taking off). You did the LE of Scott (TB1 yay !), so how about Virgil just leaving the rocket picture upside down on the chute on his way to Thunderbird 2 ? :)
I like Joe 90, so have an interest in seeing what might come of that.
Not quite into Captain Scarlet as it was always Thunderbirds for me. I think historically, Captain Scarlet was the second most popular of the Supermarionation series behind Thunderbirds. So hope such a series would get a good following as the artistry of RHD turns out such accurate figurines and models that would do it justice. Certainly has a wide range of subject models going by Carla's list.

Plenty of material in Capt Scarlet, what a great show. They should have made a Capt Scarlet and the Mysterons go to Trumptonshire movie. I would have loved to see the 'Angels' blast Lord Belborough's pad to pieces, a magic movie moment lost forever.

Well, sounds like a job for the Trumpton Fire Brigade to go and tend to the poor guy's pad, only this time get a real fire to put out for a change ;-) That's what (& who) you really want to see, right ? :D
Besides, if memory serves, isn't Lord Belborough out of Chigley ? The guy with the 'permanently on' steam train (don't the boiler take an hour or so to heat up ?!), able to go 'anywhere' by (his personal) railway ... ;-)
I suppose Thunderbirds is the same - always got the right tools and gear to fix the job successfully ... and like James Bond - just the right gadget at the right time to get him out of a fix ...
Sure, I can overlook a few plot points. The key message in all of them is they want to help no matter what. They are still classics and fun to watch. :-)

Oh i don't care what programme it came from. All i wanna see is Captain Black and his Mysterons destroy all of Trumptonshire. Imagine the scene as a SPV speeds into Camberwick Green and blows Captain Flack's helmet off!!! Or an interceptor intercepts the fire engine going to a fire and blows the thing into a billion bits. Movie magic in the making!

Sounds like an action packed movie. I am sure a fan will one day come up with one of those computer-generated self-made movies to give you your magical moment.

SDF, if RHD produce some Capt Scarlet SDV's with firing mechanisms you could film me while i speed them around Number 452's CG collection, firing at all the nodding citizens of mirth. Scattering shards of resin everywhere as the SDV's smash Windy and his friends into dust. Then the final magical scene, when four 'Angels' fly towards No452's Windy MO and fires resin busting rockets at it, blasting it into nothingness..........Oscar winning

Naughty girl, who hasn't been taking their medication?
Need I remind you that when Gordon Murray devised Camberwick Green, he stated that "The star would be the location - a rural village - and everyone would be nice, and kind, and helpful, and happy."
In other words, no place for violence. Something which we should all aspire to, even in the 21st century.

Yeah young goggle eyes can get in the BIG RAT and get the skills of a bomber pilot and then get in a bomber and blow Chigley and Camberwick Green back to 1965.
Nice piccies though Mr WB. :)

I was talking to Matt at the GDO weekend about the Captain Scarlet and Joe 90 sreies and being ever keen to add to his workload I dropped into the conversation the idea of a set of monochrome Fireball XL5 figures. No definate "yes" but if the CS and J90 figures sell well and Carla applies enough pressure, and the thumbscrews, then who knows. There are after all a lot of Gerry Anderson fans out there who could very easily become RHD fans too. ;)
Carla

See now Fireball XL5 monochrome makes perfect sense as it was only shown in b/w i believe, whereas monochrome cg and dog pieces are ............
Please no Thunderbirds or any other Anderson items in monochrome, if it weren't shown in b/w then monochromes are pointless.

Fireball XL5 was made in the year I was born (1962) but based in the year 2063. It was indeed the last Anderson production to be shown in black and white. I belive that I and Robert the Robot had something very much in common. Everytime an order was changed or something went wrong, steam would come out of Robert's head - just like me.
Don Spencer sang the theme song, and somewhat bizzarely, this spent 12 weeks in the charts (1963).
There were 39 episodes of XL5, so for those who only want a limited number of figures etc to be released by RHD, this is probably not the one to be asking to be produced.

My Dad tells me Anderson also made something called Twizzle in the early 60's, is this correct? Is Muffin the Mule still illegal?
SDF
3rd October 2009, 13:00
I agree that monochrome versions of Thunderbirds are not desirable, as it would have no interest for me. I think it makes sense for the black and white programmes to be treated as such. Twizzle was a very early programme from the late 50's. Never seen it.
Interestingly enough, my first taste of Thunderbirds before I saw it on TV was in old Super 8 cine film reels, and they were in black and white. They were edited shorts of the TV programme. I got hoodwinked over the colour of Thunderbird 2 - there was a Corgi model in blue that I had, and I thought that was the colour having only seen the B&W cine films, before being corrected as it was really green. Also saw some short cine reels of Joe 90 in B&W too.
So Thunderbirds and Joe 90 in colour please.

Yes indeed, he did make Twizzle. I found this a bit scary at the time, not forgetting I would have been about 3 years of age when I started watching tv. I actually think Twizzle was made around 1960 / 1961 so I was a bit of a latecomer to this one.

I cannot possibly comment on Muffin the mule. 443

My soppy old fella recently bought the Thunderbirds, Joe90, and Captain Scarlet DVD boxed sets and we have been watching some of them which is why i recall so much about Capt Scarlet which is prob my fav of the three.
Don't make stuff like that thesedays for kids.....or do they?

This is why you are a nurse and not in the legal profession:) Besides I didn't say "No comment" I said I couldn't possibly comment - there's a difference. So, unless you have found those long lost photographs I insist that I couldn't possibly comment ;)
