Now in the factory shop you can get the complete WILLO THE WISP set at a good price of only ÂŁ50.00. Which sounds like a good deal to those of us who collect everything RHD. That's just a tenner a piece. My guess is that the collection could be retired soon (could be wrong) so get yours while you can.

It's a nice set too.....:)

Ajsdot, serious question. Are you really Dray?

You never post anything interesting but you seem to always be LOLing at something Dray says, and quite frankly it is rarely anything funny.

...oh and is it time for your shearing yet?

Ajsdot and Dray are two different people, met them both and very pleasant people they are too.

Clearly everything ever written about the police must be true, it's so obvious isn't it (God help us :()

Correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't the Willo collection an idea from the forum members?

Number 452
10th August 2009, 18:03
Yes, along with other collections that have barely got of the ground. I've said it before, half a dozen people come on here and request that 'X' is produced, RHD produce 'X' only to find that those six are not a reasonable representation fo the entire collectorate. I know RHD won't admit it, but they have been bitten in the a**e a few times on the back of supposed demand for something new. (Andy Capp and the bear from Peru by way of just two examples).

I think I was among forum members who suggested Willo the Wisp as a possible new collection on a previous thread.
On the face of it the idea has legs, (although not as many as Arthur) Willo got an audience of 8 million viewers, nothing much has been produced commercially apart from books, videos and dvd’s and a new updated version came out a few years ago. So why hasn’t taken off?
Maybe the current economic doom and gloom has led people to be less likely to buy nostalgic figures in favour of stocking up on soup but I also think the fact that RHD has much less of a presence in the high street than it used to is a major factor. I remember being tempted to buy CG or Beano figures many times by seeing them in shop windows before someone started off my collection by buying me a clanger. I’ve only seen one shop selling Willo on my travels so maybe people just don’t know they are out there.
Also, as collectors I guest we are a pretty compulsive lot so if they aren’t many figures to buy we are less than likely to get addicted buying them. I have been sadly disappointed by the lack of new Willo figures in the first, second and third quarters and although RHD might not want to get their fingers burnt any further as the Osmonds might point out 5 is a group not a collection.
It has a bold move to bring out Willo and I hope it can still be a successful slow burner. While the Doggie collection could seemingly go on forever and the Beano maybe has years left in it surely CG is nearing an end. Hopefully RHD will keep delving into the world of children’s television until they find something as popular as CG.
Until then I think I will bite the bullet and take advantage of the Willo offer even though I may spend many months waiting for a Carwash the Cat to be produced!

Hector, this has to be one the most well constructed and thought through post I have read on the forum for a long long time.

You make some extremely interesting points, particularly in respect of the high street presence. I am in total agreement with you on that point, and whilst recognising the WWW is a most wonderful technological contribution (we wouldn't have this forum for a start), it is clearly to the prejudice of the high street shop, particularly the independent. I suspect there are a multitude of reasons why the high street point of sale is no longer a viable option for the likes of small companies such as RHD, it is however a terrible shame. I suspect that the vast majority of RHD collectors either first saw a RHD item in a shop or at the very least saw somebody elses piece which was first seen on display in a shop.

I think that CG is probably (and dare I say, hopefully) coming to an end - maybe a couple of years left. I've studied and studied the various CG, Chigley and Trumpton episodes and have identified a number of pieces that are yet to be produced. I will of course be submitting these ideas to RHD in response to the recent mail out. I hold the honestly held belief that there is no longer the desire for re-produced individual figures in what amounts to a slightly different pose (the next film frame!) on a different coloured base.

Willo was to arrive on the small screen post my impressionable childhood years, but I recognise your affection for these in my personal love of everything CG, so I hope that your desires are recognised by RHD - sooner rather than later.

Thanks again for a great post and keep 'em coming (maybe no more Osmond's though ;))

Some very good points in this thread.

I quite like this set and if I hadn't already beaten up my bank account on the special offers of the last few weeks I'd be indulging in these too.
It'd be nice to see the set complete but that of course all depends on wether or not RHD think that they'll sell them. No point making them just to gather dust on their stockroom shelves. I think the same happened with some of the Bagpuss mice. A lack of interest meant that they never got past the prototype stage.

As regards High Street stockists, 2 of my local shops have recently downsized their RHD stock with 1 considering stopping it altogether. This can't help matters. Thank goodness for the RH website and Ebay otherwise I'd not be able to buy anything at all.

He was called The Beast. He started out as a handsome prince, who couldn't pronounce his R's, until he crashed into Evil Edna who zapped him with her ariels and transformed him into The Beast.
