Hope you don't mind my blowing my own trumpet here, but I've got a book coming out in a couple of months, and I've managed to shoehorn Camberwick Green in.
The book's called The Countryside Companion - it's a collection of snippets, quotes and facts about the countryside - and I've included the following item:
Here is a box, a musical box…
A quick guide to the main characters in that most famous of villages, Camberwick Green.
Windy Miller Miller, cider-maker, respecter of the old ways
Jonathan Bell Farmer, owns fork-lift truck, hates the old ways
Mickey Murphy Baker, rather stereotypical Irishman, family man
Mrs Honeyman Chemist’s wife, baby-carrier, relentless gossip
Dr Mopp Doctor, nature photographer, leader figure
Peter Hazel Postman, whistler, suspicious relationship with Mrs Dingle
Mrs Dingle Postmistress, owner of puppy called Packet, never mentions Mr Dingle
Roger Varley Sweep, village’s good luck charm, owns motorcycle
PC McGarry Policeman, number 452, bit of a pedant, also owns motorcycle
Mr Carraway Fishmonger, fond of sailing ships, loves fishing
Thomas Tripp Milkman, owns a cat called Tabitha, drives slowly down country lanes
Captain Snort Soldier man, lives in Pippin Fort, complete anachronism
Mr Crockett Mechanic, owns garage, fills up your car with just two gallons
Mr Dagenham Salesman, drives around in flashy car, sells helicopters
As I say, apologies for the plug, but I'm chuffed to bits that I'm publishing something - a very little something - about Camberwick Green.
