Mine has finnaly arrived with my stockist. Cannot wait to collect it. What does everyone else think of it? :)

Picked mine up today - fantastic. Very heavy though - glad I didn't have to carry it far. Some have complained about the price but now I have mine it is good value.

Also, have to say that the reservation system seems to have worked a treat - for me anyway. It is worth saying, though, that my stockist has one out on the shelf, so if anyone in Nottingham wants to know where to get one, go to Situls in the Broadmarsh Centre.

Picked mine up over the Bank Holiday, a lovely piece but I darned near broke my back carrying the flipping thing home - I know people were saying it was heavy, but Blimey O'Reilley - is it made out of cast iron or summink?

Only disappointment was that my Stockist had sold out of the Milk Float, so I couldn't pick one of those up

I will be unpacking Mickey Murphy's van tonight. I've run out of room now so some pieces are being packed away to make room. Mr Crockett's truck and the large Town Hall clock were the first to get put in the loft.
I will provide an update on the piece over the weekend - watch this space!

I'm collecting mine tomorrow, hopefully, so have spent this evening assembling the new unit for it and some of the squashed pieces. There were fittings in the unit to fix it to the wall but judging by the comments here, the weight of the bakers van will anchor it well.

I'm still waiting. I'm sure it'll arrive soon. I'll take a trolley with me to carry it from the shop to the car!!

OK here goes with my review of the Bakers Van. First impressions are it is heavy and big. The paint finish on mine is very good and there is just enough detailing in the piece to avoid it looking like some normal everyday brown van. Of course the original models on the series were not that detailed in the first place. It is much, much better than Mr Crockett's truck which is really just a big red blob and far too big.
The music box mechanism works well and plays the right tune.
I hope Mickey wasn't going too fast as his eyes aren't focused on the road ahead - I reckon Paddy and Mary were up to no good.

Overall it deserves a thumbs up.

In respect of future models it would be good to get the ice cream van and Chippy Minton's van but I fear the council truck will be enormous. Of course we need a proper fire engine but this is also likely to be very big if all the cars/trucks are produced to the same scale.

Future Vehicles I'd like to see:

Fire Engine (at this point I don't care how big, heavy and expensive the darned thing is!)
Ice Cream Van
Farmer Bell's Tractor
Chippy and Nibs' Van
Mr Rumpling's Barge

I still want Mr Dagenham in his helicopter. He's a bit of a flash guy and the little figure in the blue suit really doesn't do him justice. The car would be a start but the helicopter would be miles better.

hello everyone, thanks for sorting me out cinta finally made it.
its really nice to see everyone has got their new vans.i however have not been so lucky yet, still waiting :( :(
what really grips me is people are telling me that they are on e-bay already, now i know i will get mine eventually and at the right price, but are these people firstly doing real collectors out of their piece?
secondly how are these people getting hold of them so quickly, are they passing themselves off as real collectors? if so should they be stopped, banned,or should we get captain snort and the boys on to them.i would be interested to see what people think,or am i just being sad bitter and twisted because i dont have my new piece yet.

The Curious Orange

Don't forget that this wasn't a collectors only piece, it was a collectors priority reservation piece. We've got ours, and the great unwashed will have to fight over the rest.
Some collectors might have bought this piece deciding that they don't want it, others might have taken their chances and bought a second from their stockists.

IJL67
18th May 2005, 16:48
That's fair enough but do you still not think members should have first dibbs at a new piece before it goes on general sale before anyone else gets their hands on it,sort of a members perk?

britgirl

Hi there IJL67,

The club members were given first dibs on CGMB5. :)

I don't know if you were a member back then, but sometime last Autumn (can't remember when exactly) all members were given the chance to pre order CGMB5 ahead of the pack. We were each given a form to fill out (I think with the newsletter) to request the piece and we had to designate a stockist to have it sent to. Then it was up to the member and stockist to sort out the payment/delivery details. :p

If you are a recent member, this may have happened before you came on board. At any rate, we all had our chance as a "special member's perk" to get this piece.

I expect any that were left over after all the forms had been sorted out were allocated to stockists in the usual way, and thus appeared on Ebay before any of us managed to pick them up.

Hope that helps... :D

 OK yes i did, and yes we did, but does that not still explain why they appear on e-bay if they are left overs, before the members have received them. Having had to fill in a form to guarentee your piece, having a nervous wait to see if you have been alocated one, being told by the shop how lucky i was to get one as it is a limeted edition(which i already knew)but then to find them on e-bay before i had recieved mine just gripped me a bit.
have you two recieved yours? :)

The Curious Orange
19th May 2005, 08:05
I've got mine. Britgirl might have a little longer to wait as she lives over the hills and far away.
But my stockist had others on the shelves for sale to anyone. If I'd have bought a second one, please tell me why I shouldn't be able to put it on E-bay for whatever silly price I like?
And who's to say that collectors who aren't in the Club are any less "valid" than those who are?

Cinta
19th May 2005, 08:54
IJL67, you really need to contact your stockist, we definitely have one reserved for you, but you need to speak to your stockist regarding delivery etc. :)

IJL67
19th May 2005, 11:03
Cinta i have no gripe as you may know after speaking to you, just trying to gauge a reaction, and get something going. If i have upset any one i am sorry,HOWEVER if there are unscrupulious people out there who want to make money out of someone elses hard work then i do not have to agree with it.

Gosh how I wish the "remember me" function of this website worked.... Then I wouldn't have to keep putting in my username & password all the time... :(

Anyhoo....

My bakers van is going to my mum's where I will retrieve it probably in July. Shipping to the USA with all that weight is NOT an option...!!!! It's all bought & paid for & everything.

As for the Ebay thing IJL67.... It seems there is no way to stop it. We have been fighting this since the very first LE (Christmas Post) - does anyone remember that bun fight??? Of the 1000 made, probably over half were sold via Ebay, including some unscrupulous stockists too who sold their allocation straight from that site.

You can't stop free enterprise I'm afraid (which is good really), so just sit back, and bask in the knowledge that you got yours direct from the stockist and at RRP to boot.

It doesn't seem to matter how hard the good folks at RHD try to secure the LE's for members first, they always seem to end up on Ebay before they end up at your stockist (whoever that may be). I'm not knocking your stockist either, I mean the collective "your stockist". ;)

The Curious Orange

BG - The "remember me" function is working - for me at least. Perhaps the problem is with the configuration on your browser or PC - are you set up to accept cookies, etc?

britgirl
19th May 2005, 20:57
It seems to be that I have to log in at the front page of the forum in order to see which threads have an open envelope and for the forum to recognise that I am GMT-6 hours.

However, although it then says "welcome britgirl" at the top of the forum page, and logs me as a member in the list of how many people are perusing the forum at the bottom of the page.... if I want to reply to a message, it forces me to log in a second time... :(

Kind of a pain really. I have the "remember me" box checked, but it doesn't remember me at all....ever.... :( (sniffle sniffle).

I don't have any idea if it's a cookie thing. I'll have to ask the technical whizz of the family how that's set up. ;)

MandyH
20th May 2005, 11:39
It won't remember me at work, but it does at home! And yet everything else I have set up from work that requires user names and passwords (most of which ARE work related) it remembers fine.

britgirl
20th May 2005, 13:07
When I log in on the forum front page, the system knows it's me. :)

When I click on to an individual forum, (i.e. T-birds, CG, clangers, whatever)the system still knows it's me. :)

When I then click on an individual topic within the forum, (i.e. this one) the system then regards me as a guest and if I wish to post I have to log in again.

So perhaps it's not a cookie thing after all....

Cinta
20th May 2005, 13:52
Hi Britgirl, make sure you have your cookies enabled on your web browser, that might be the problem.

Cinta
26th May 2005, 09:02
You really need to contact you stockist CO and ask them why you have not received it yet

The Curious Orange
26th May 2005, 09:16
Because they sold it to someone else, that's why.
They're waiting for some more to come in. I would buy it from another stockist, but I want to keep on their good side coz they haven't let me down on any of the Ltd Ed's yet. If I get a milk float from elsewhere, they're likely to sell my Ltd Ed Post Office :D to someone else, and then where am I??

MandyH
26th May 2005, 12:12
Cinta,

Any idea how much longer Rebecca and I are likely to be waiting?

You'll have to send us your address, so we'll know where to send your wooden spoon for Christmas... :D

:D Just kidding - not really got my Milk Float yet - but got my Bakery van - which is by far my FAVOURITE vehicle and one of my favourite pieces.

I must say I really like Harrop's production of the vehicles (more than the scenes actually). With this in mind the collection could still run for a long time - G R E A T.

Another point - Do you think Harrop's would be prepared to produce characters from the series that were talked about but never seen in the TV programmes - Mr Honeyman, Millicent Mopp etc? I am sure some of these characters have illustrations of them in the annuals that were produced - with these additional characters this could take production of Camberwick Green well past CG100!! :)

Got my milkfloat, got it off e-bay!

Cinta
27th May 2005, 09:03

Cinta
27th May 2005, 09:04

What Post office????

IJL67
27th May 2005, 11:52

WOW FANTASTIC,AMAZING,BRILL,SUPER,UNBELEIVEABLE,BEST EVER,

Great - Thanks for that information! Perfect - that's one more that we are going to need to have before the set is complete!!

Rebecca_R
27th May 2005, 20:06
You can hardly lose brownie points with your stockist when presumably it was their mistake to sell the milk float to someone else!?

Surely if you tell them when you get one from elsewhere (so they aren't still trying to get you one) that will be OK?

YOU are the customer after all...

The Curious Orange
31st May 2005, 07:54
Rebecca - Yeah, but they've been pretty good over the years and I don't like taking my custom elsewhere just yet. They were very apologetic and said they'd order me another one. I think a lot of stockists wait until the end of the month and order in one go, so I think they might be doing that, which is why its taking its time.
Besides, they offered me a 10% discount on it, which is another reason not to go elsewhere.

Cinta - THE Post Office. You know, the one you're releasing soon xxx :D :D :D

So pleased to have my Baker's Van!

Mandy, have you had 'the call' yet?

Quick question for Cinta though...the label on the box says Limited Edition FIRST Edition...that implies there might be a second edition...

What's the story?

MandyH
13th June 2005, 11:23
Yes, I collected it on Thursday.

Sorry Cinta, I know I said I'd let you know once I'd got it, but I picked it up before a very hectic weekend and this is the first chance I've had to get on the website for a little while.

By the way, I love the Milk Float. If anything it is better than the Baker's Van.

Cinta
20th June 2005, 10:39
Sorry I haven't answered these before but I have been away :)

Don't worry Mandy, I am just pleased you managed to receive it ok.

No I don't think we will be producing another addition to it, but we still have to put first edition on our Limited Editions now. just in case :)
