if we look here http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=6210751274 we see the bidding history, i think that the seller is asking a friend to put bids in, as if you had a top bid, you wouldnt out bid urself that much would you?

Dandie
19th September 2005, 19:26
Nine days left and already at £510.00, I would expect it to be in the £2 -3,000 mark by the end if they are at the correct values , I only need the Red Nose Dennis as I have just bought the plaque on e bay tonight .

Your wrong Dodger Fan Beanoblack if you look at his feedback is a regular Robert Harrop buyer and he hasn't out bid him/herself he has just put a larger bid in if somebody on ebay bids the same as you the first to bid wins it but if he wants to up his/her bid then it goes up to the next price level if they were to put another higher bid in above that one the price won't change until a different user bids in between the 2 highest bids. I'm sure whoever the seller is wouldn't do that you know and I know that this collection will go up on its own steam for the first few days.
Good luck whoever the seller is hope it sells very high as it gives me some idea what to insure my collection for.
I think £2000 - £3000 is short of what they will be looking for I paid a four figure sum for my Red Nose Dennis and I know somebody who paid more than me work that out with the Plaque, SLH, Diary and other ltd editions

Dandie
19th September 2005, 20:15
I assume that the price paid is the value in that case , I saw a Red Nose Dennis go for £380 and have not seen one since so it is hard to judge. What value do you give a one off figure as the Red nose Dennis were one of 50 and the one off figures at this years auction are just that , one offs so they must be worth more.?????

POPPY
19th September 2005, 20:28
It is so hard to work it all out really because truthfully something is only worth what somebody is willing to pay. I missed the very first Red Nose Dennis that came on ebay the one in the collection is that piece so it says, one did come up just over 12 months ago from a lady who split up from her boyfreind so she sold his collection, she removed it from ebay because she couldn't cope with the volume of questions. Luckily I emailed her after it was removed to ask why it was withdrew then made her an offer and with some help from Cinta to make sure it was pucker went and fetched my Red Nose.

As for prototypes I agree they are a one off and yes would love one but I wouldn't pay so much for them as they are not a reckonised piece listed in the collection.

Dandie
19th September 2005, 20:32
I suppose the thing is the originals or Prototypes are what they are, but I got in late at this years event and luckily a couple had not sold so I got Desperate Dan Fireman , Teach, Keyhole Kate and Soap Box Dennis they have subtle differences for example Dan has Gold cuffs on his uniform but my figure I had was Black, talking to Matt he was saying that they are worth more but again only what people are willing to pay, but like you when you have so many it becomes obsessive that you look for the ones with subtle differences.

most certainly, it will go for loads, example cuthber goes for 70 pounds plus, so it was inevitable, jus find it suspitious it went up so much, so quickly. watching the eby show on BBC2 at the minute

are these the studio master ones? That were available to buy at the table just before the till?

I got a teach at the event before last, but always thought he was the same just one of the ones they used as a model to paint the rest with. Guess ill have to look more closely!

Dandie
20th September 2005, 20:01
I thought that but I spoke to Matt -creative director and he said that I should buy as many as possible, IF POSSIBLE, as they are the first ones ever produced and are painted by Peggy who takes upto 8 hours to paint so I was quite lucky , but they were near the till and I got caught up in the Pup Parade display area and didn't mangage to get near the till until half the figures had gone. I also got them signed by Matt, Mike, Peggy ,Simon and Robert so hopefully they are a good investment.

WOW. I will we watching to see how much that goes for. For what it would cost for shipping - from Jersey that lot will have to be shipped! I would actually make the effort to pick the pieces up myself. (ok it would be easier for me) but i would go on the ferry just to make sure the pieces stay in one piece!.

What really erked me was the way the pieces were placed in order. I HATE it when people do that, layed out in an organised way. The seller would get more justice for the collection putting the larger pieces like Dan, Teacher, the Bears and Bananaman at the back of collections and bring Wilfrid, Gnasher, Spotty, Erbert, Winston etc to the front where they can be seen. My cousin does that he has the whole Beano and Dandy Collection, Camberwick Green Collection, Wombles, Perfect Pets, and now the Thunderbirds. THEY ARE ALL IN ORDER. and under lock and key so i can't disorganise them. I know they don't move (or can they) but give them some life.

Didn't mean anything personal about it, just making an observation in general all round. Maybe erked was a little strong a word, it was just that when i was admiring the photos, some of the larger pieces blocked the view of smaller pieces.

And i am kind of missing my pieces back at home :o

just spotted this one for those who dont have many of the earlier pieces but all the later ones!

^^ will probably go for around 1 grand less than Marks? as no rednose dennis, wannabeas, classics, picturebox's

Id be gutted having to sell all those especially after having spent such along time collecting them, but really do hope you get what you want for them.

side note- I was watching 'beat the burgular earlier' and would be pig sick if someone broke into my house and smashed them. Luckily my moms house insurance covers them individually as long as none are worth more than 1,000 apparently.

He was a bit over defensive and came over a bit too strong. Apologies for voicing my opinion on a public forum.

Adding to the side note: I'm glad that my collection is housed in a area where the crime rate is zero....

shortcorgi - where did you get the cabinet? was it from David Hicks?
Sorry for interfering but i think the certificate for the Red Nosed Dennis should be in the photographs 'cause that is what boosts the price of the piece considerably.

Okay no offence taken. It's just that some of the message's to put it politely
annoyed me, ( would like to use something a bit stronger) and yours was the first i happened to reply to.I have put a message out on my auction which i hope explains things and sets the record straight. Not sure if it was you who said a photograph of the letter/receipt would help. If it was thanks for the advice, i tried this but ebay would not let me edit my pictures. All explained on my auction.

Not Quite ! While you are entitled to say what you like as it is a free world and country and this is supposed to be a fun and friendly site, you seem to have a lot to say and have a strong opinion about my auction which i did not take to kindly too.It was your remarks/opinions/theories, which generally ****ed me off! Without getting to personal,as much as i would like to,and just so you know i have added a revised message to my auction especially for you. I think what i have to say there sets the record straight. Again i would like to say to you i have never asked anyone to bump up a bid price for me never have and never will !

Shame you could'nt alter the pictures, perhaps you could email a photo to people who are interested or even a link? as that certificate / receipt would really help.

I really hope the auction goes well, if i had the money i would be bidding. Imagine saving all those postage costs to get a collection like that, and the amount you could spend....

Hmmm, maby i was a bit strong, what i should of said:

I find it incredibly stange that the person with the top bid, 'Beanoblack' par example (or anyone else for that matter, in any auction) feels it nessisery to increse there bid twice, merely seconds after placing there original bid, when it is so early in the auction, it makes sense to me (as the bidder) to stay low, as long as possible, the and pull out the big bucks towards the dying minutes of the auction, or keep quiet until the home straight. However, that is my opinion, and also how i work on ebay, i did not mean to cause up set or emotional harm to either yourself or 'Beanoblack' if i did then yes i appologies. However, i do hope based on THIS theory, you can see where my original post was coming from. Also, i want to point this 'bumping' has happened in the past, the Ebay show on BBC2 earlier this week, pointed this out and will do so for a long time yet

Please also note, the veiws/belifes expressed by me are soley those of me, and do not nesseserily represent any other members of the forum or indeed, anybody i am associated with. now, who wants to be the first to take it to 4,000??

Peace

Can't remember who it was on here but somebody was saying about bumping the price up on Shortcorgi's collection if you want to see a classic case of this view this collection both the highest bidders come from the same place as the seller if you check them out on feedback forum on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6211584614&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

After been informed of what people are suggesting on this forum i thought it best i set the story straight about this subject. The current high bidder also comes from yorkshire, but as i'm sure anyone is aware, yorkshire is a very big place. I have received alot of interest from people locally, mainly because i think they want to avoid postage costs. The other 2 higher bidders are from essex and sommerset, so please tell me where you get the conclusion they are from the same area??? Please contact me if anyone else has an opinion on this subject!!!!!

I will appologise if I am incorrect but Primrosedianne has moved house in the last hour as they came from Yorkshire less than an hour ago when I checked it out on the feedback forum now they have moved to Essex very strange.
When there is a collection or expensive pieces go on ebay I always tend to watch them and see who is bidding and to be fair it is normally the same names that keep popping up this is how I knew when somebody accussed Shortcorgi that it wasn't true but the names on this other collection I didn't know at all so had a look and it looked very suspect, but as I said above if I am wrong I can only say sorry.

Well i have just checked the ID history of the bidder in question, and there are no changes to this persons account since they recently joined, so i think you are mistaken. I don't understand why myself, and also shortcorgi are being accused of bidding our items up. People have different techniques on how they use ebay, and neither can be held responsible for how other people are bidding. I have already received notification of a dispute, which has been resolved, and proved.

Pretty good price, but i thought it would make more in the end.

I suppose bidding didnt take off, as people bid quite early on.
I think if they were sold seperatley maybe 4500?

Macca

3,450.01

Good price. I thought it might have gone for a bit more. I hope the collection has a safe journey from one good home to hopefully another.

As for the other auction discussed. Hope you are happy with the winning bid.

If I had been selling I would of split the collection into Classics , and groups of early peices , followed by the collector hard to gets and finally the plaque and then Red nose Dennis, the thing is as a whole collection not everyone wants the whole lot and they cannot allways afford £3 -4 ,000 in one go but if the peices are sold seperately then they can fetch more .

Steve_H
1st October 2005, 20:07
not everyone wants the whole lot and they cannot allways afford £3 -4 ,000 in one go but if the peices are sold seperately then they can fetch more .

I totally agree with that! I expect the buyer to be after around 1/3 of the lot, and will sell of the rest.

If i had the money thats what i would do, as the cost of selling the rest would probably cover what he paid, and he gets a rather nice red nose dennis and rest for nowt.

Macca
2nd October 2005, 14:05
I would have sold them individually or as lots, as well, as i might have got more money that way. For me the only pieces in shortcorgi's collection that interested me were Santa's Little Helpers, Diary, Red Nosed Dennis and Dennis and Gnasher Plaque.

Yes i expect that most people would just be interested in a few and will sell the rest later on (nearer xmas).

But it is shortcorgi's choice how he wishes to sell his pieces and i hope he is comtempt with the sale.

However the buyer might be a new collector and bought all the pieces he needs, and probably saving him/herself money when buying individually.

Been a fair while since I read these pages and looks like you guys have been having fun! I love a good debate about ebay so couldn't resist just adding that perhaps the person who bid twice in a row has a varied work schedule and wanted to make sure they were highest bidder, and maybe it hasn't occurred to them that only one bid at the end is necessary to win! Anyway, having said that I don't really care...I bought myself a tin of red paint and my Dennis has a red nose too!!!!
