View Full Version : Fire Engine - max price you would pay

To help RH with their market research what would be the maximum you'd pay for the fire engine when/if it is released.

Let's assume we get a model with everything - all fireman in position, a working ladder (elevate!) and maybe the ting-a-ling music box song as well.

Could a £100 price tag be justified?

Well, if it had a working ladder, then it would hard to see it much under £100. But if was a music box with all firemen and no other working parts, I'd have thought (using the baker's van as a benchmark) we'd probably be looking at 80 quids.

But would we need ALL the fireman. I'd be happy with Barney (driving) and Cuthbert (up the ladder) - then I'd go to 60 pound :)

Yes, we would need ALL the firemen.

I don't see much point in a working ladder. A musical mechanism would be nice, but not essential.

I've waited so long for the fire engine that I would view it as a "capstone" piece for my collection. I don't really think money is the sole object. If it's a great piece (that is, if it looks like it looks in my imagination) then I'll buy it, regardless of price. I'd expect to pay up to £100 without compunction.

I just wish they'd hurry up and make it already!

On second thoughts a working ladder is a bit OTT I concede.

However we do need all the firemen.

I'm not too sure how RH have ended other collections but to go out on a high note with the fire engine seems to me a great idea.

Mind you I can't see the end just yet.

do you think they would make all the fire men again? . it would be good if you could buy the engine and the buy the fire men and add them to the engine as and when you can afford them (sorry moneys a bit tight in Corfu)

It would be a good idea if Harrop's produced round holes/bases on the fire engine for the individual firemen to be slotted into.

Similarly, they could also produce a bandstand with holes/bases in which to insert the firemen band figurines. They could even, as per the original music box, insert a winding mechanism so that the bandstand rotated.

Maybe they should also produce another version of the music box, this time with the top open & the ability to insert a figure inside with their head sticking out. Better still would be one that, as per the TV programme, rotates & opens up.

No no no no no! Stop giving Harrop's these silly ideas! Buying the firemen separately at £17.50 a go means you've forked out £122 quid before you've even bought the engine!

If you're so keen to spread the cost, get a credit card. Even the highest interest rate on the market will work out cheaper than that!!!

... A lot of collectors have already purchased the requisite figures to sit in the bandstand/fire engine.

I think it would be nice to have somewhere to slot all the little firemen. They look nice on the shelf and all, but I think it would be much nicer to have some kind of "frame" for them to sit in.

Especially the original set, as they just all stand there with no pose or accessories. I have a shelf full of figurines, and all the individual characters look just fine and then you have 7 incredibly similar ones all grouped together looking, well.... you know...!!! (Well twice actually as I have most of the band members too)

I would happily slot them in a fire engine or bandstand should one ever materialize. :)

(Oh, and I know there are plenty of newer collectors trying to play catch-up, so please don't send lots of angry replies if you haven't yet acquired the firemen :D )

I think a bandstand for the firemen band remains a good idea, but the original firemen slotting into a fire engine?? I can't quite see that, somehow...

The fire brigade "standing to attention" are some of my favourite pieces - I've got them lined up along the top of the cabinet, and they look fantastic!

I don't dislike them.... just as a group they are not my favourites.

If the fire engine had all the firemen on it, it would be big and it would be expensive and we would have yet another set of firemen. If it were up to me I would have the driver on it perhaps but that's all. I'm not bothered about a working ladder and it being a music box doesn't worry me either.

My original group of firemen currently reside on my shelf with the large fire station as a backdrop to set the scene. No it's not the same scale but if you pretend it's just a bit further away it works! I would be more than happy to have the fire engine alongside it to complete the look rather than have to put it seperately because it has yet another set of figures on it.

The music box I would prefer is the bandstand because I would love to have them in their rightful home! But again, that would be a BIG piece and I don't really have the room. Fire engine is higher priority without question!!

As for price - it's theoretically a must have piece but I might have doubts if it was more than about £80.
